Huli Kuri Aata - The Game of Tigers & Sheep

A popular board game from the countryside…. Got this fancy idea of playing with my family over the weekend… Well I need some time to read the instructions of-course.

A boy playing Gilli-Danda (in Avani village).
A popular sport of my childhood, known as Jilla Katti around my home town.
Looking up on the net I hit this Wikipedia Article about the sport. What surprised me was its popularity! It is popular all over the Indian Subcontinent, Cambodia and even Italy & America (with some variations & different names).
The best part about sports like these is the simplicity, accessibility & fun without sophistication.

Freshly tied brooms left to dry in the sun.
These brooms used in the South-Indian Households are made from a kind of grass. Though seen less in the cities (these days), they are still a way to go for house-keeping in the villages.

Happy Swimmers.
I took this picture near Avani. Surprisingly this place was surrounded by filled water-tanks and wells.
However all water-tanks & wells in my village where I learnt to swim have dried up, even borewells that people are now depending on for irrigation are failing. Still people in my village are finding it hard to digest things like protecting trees preserves water bodies.
