Netbooks

Net-books address a niche-segment in the PC market space, which I believe is a good chunk. Take me as a case in focus. I have a heavy-weight desktop at office and another one at home. I wanted something for my ad hoc travel needs, like when I am on a trip, a trek or just spending a couple of days with my bachelor friends.

a Desktop, Netbook & a Laptop

A high-end PDA Phone seemed way to expensive and clumsy when it comes to typing an email or doing things on the Internet.

A full sized laptop on the other hand is inconvenient too, I cant mindlessly carry it to wherever I go, forget taking it along for a trek.

A net-book fits into this space very snugly. I can carry it without feeling the weight and without anyone noticing (until I take it out of-course). I can do a lot with it too, while travelling I can read an e-book, listen to music, watch a video, do some blogging, dump photos from my camera and even write snippets of code on eclipse.

Best of all it costs half a laptop and less than a high-end PDA-phone(I guess).

One thing I have to complain about though is the battery time. my Acer Aspire One gives me 1 and half hours. I wish I had some 10 hrs or at least 6 (which is usually sufficient time to reach an AC power source). I am sure the net-books to come would address this.
